People had told us that Switzerland was an expensive city to travel, but I didn't quite believe them until i went to McDonald's! You would think there would be a standard price abroad for this, but you would be mistaken...We have found looking for cheap places to eat very tiring, and most of the time having to eat takeaways to stick to any kind of budget...I WANT AND NEED VEGES!!
There's not heaps to do here, you have the odd church and museum, the old town is again very nice and strolling along Lake Zurich was fun, especially cause we came across some more Christmas markets. Like going to the ones in the train station wasn't already enough! I don't think you could really ever get sick of them to be honest
Christmas markets at the train station are absolutely insane! Crowds of people at each stall makes it hard to see anything. There's all sort of goodies here, you are spoiled by the selection, and if you get thirsty in between there's always a mulled wine waiting for you around the corner. We took a while to get around them all, even though Dan insisted on hurrying me along when he saw a candy or chocolate stall coming up. Hah! little did he know i was eying up the mulled wine stand as a plan B :P
Thought it was time to check out the famous shopping street, Bahnhofstrasse, which is best known for its window shoppers and people watchers. Purely a street for the big spenders and those who like there big brands. I like my brands...but unfortunately am a window shopper like all the rest this time round :( Most buildings are decorated with Christmas lights, the street has lights hanging above the footpath and ever so often you walk past a decorated Christmas tree. To add to the Christmas spirit we happen to stumble upon the Christmas parade just as it was starting, how cool is that! Horse and carts, kids riding donkeys, Santas and elves, bands playing and a decorated Christmas tram. The streets were crazy, buzzing with kids and families. Awwww Christmas is almost here!
Hurden is a town on lake Zurich which is home to a 800m odd wooden walkway across the lake! Strolling along it you soak up the picturesque scenery of this little town while enjoying the peacefulness and the fresh air.
Rhine falls is just out of Zurich near a town called Schaffhausen
the gift shop that was here. Sorry Cadbury, but I think you have been defeated! !
We planned on taking some time out in Baden at the thermal baths, which turned out to be a waste of time cause they were closed! Nevertheless we still have a story to tell from this venture out of Zurich. As we were walking back to the train station already disappointed in the trip, in front of us are trees that happen to drop a tone of leaves, so we walked through it, as it seemed kind of cool. All of a sudden we are hit by this god awful smell, something of a hybrid between vomit and dog poo. We check our shoes...nothing there...then i look down at my pants
and there is some kind of slimy spots scattered over me. 'Could this be bird poo?'. Getting the train was rather embarrassing, and i was not happy about the situation, even though Dan thought it was hilarious!
After getting back, we Googled to find out if it was the tree...turns out Gongkin trees grow fruit that eventually falls and rots on the ground
Dan has never been ice skating, so we took a hike up to the largest ice skating ring in Switzerland for a bash at it. Had heaps of fun, and like most things, got shown up by the little kids.
We meet some really cool people in our dorm room of our hostel, and after a few nights of casual (expensive) beers out, we decided to go to the supermarket, buy some beers, and drink them by the river. Near the river is a nice park located on a hill that overlooks the city. We had a great view, great company and beer...whats not to like!
We had a pretty good time here in Zurich, and met some really cool people. Off to Lucerne to check out the Swiss Alps and try fondue!!! Hooray!
