We decided to stay in a bed and breakfast this time as it was cheaper than a hostel. What a nice change and its right in the heart of Innsbruck city. The beds were so comfy, its way more homely and to top it off its joined to a bakery downstairs!! This is not just any bakery people...it has hand made goodies like gingerbread houses for sale for Christmas that are gorgeous (my next project), handmade chocolates and biscuits. Every looks so dangerously delicious. The windows of our 4 story b&b have been decorated to look like an advent calender, which looks pretty cool if you ask me (we are no. 13). As you walk out of our door you are welcomed by Christmas markets, lights, food, gifts, music and more
No rest for the wicked, we are off to see the Swarovski Kristallwelten. Its a 20min trip out of the city and when you get there you are greeted by face bedded into a grassy bank with water streaming from its mouth into a pool beneath. Lights either side guide you up the path way. As you enter you are blown away by crystal and shiny things everywhere. . As you go through the cave of 'every girls dream', you get to see all sorts of exhibits showing off Swarovski crystal in its many forms. Was pretty amazing, with the highlight being the largest crystal in the world. This is definitely something my mother would have really enjoyed!
City view from the ..... tower was pretty stunning and so it should be after climbing a huge amount of stairs on a full belly of Wiener Schnitzel! Man that was hard, i think we both got the meat sweats.
The Christmas market lights and crowds of people in the small streets and ally-ways added to the view and gave it a really nice atmosphere.
Our second day and last day here we were hoping for a real clear sunning day, and lucky for us we got it
Also half way up the mountain was an alpine zoo. Never been to one of those, so we decided to check it out. Housed all sorts of cool animals, our favourite being the bear that continued to dig a great big hole and show off to the on lookers, he was pretty cool.
They have an ice rink in the middle of the city and we happen to be walking past when a show was on. Guys were on unicycles doing really cool tricks, some even with fire. A small group of girls did an ice skating dance routine which was pretty good.
We were going to try and make it out to the Olympic skate ring while we were here so Dan could throw on some ice skates for the first time, but didn't quite work out for us, which is unfortunate, as that would have been heaps of fun
There is not a hell of a lot to see here in Innsbruck, so we managed to do most things during our short trip which was awesome, and we both really enjoyed ourselves. Would love to come back when the slopes are covered in snow and spend a week snowboarding the alps, now that would be awesome!
Our Austria adventure has come to an end for now...but never say never, this was the third time we have stopped in this beautiful country, and we were only going to visit Vienna! Time to move onto Switzerland...the land of expense (so I'm told) and check out Zurich.
