Where I stayed
Our adventures here started with the Salzburg Castle. This was the first castle that really showed a military style architecture, where everything that was built, was purely for defense and attack. Being right on the hill top, the castle had a panoramic view of the whole of Salzburg, making this a very hard Castle to attack i would imagine. Everything was built of stone, there were heaps of heavy metal doorways with big bolts and artillery holes in the castle walls every few meters
The Maribell gardens (which are gardens situated in the old town) were stunning, especially on a beautiful sunny day. All the trees and plants were perfectly maintained and the water fountains were sparkling clean. Such a nice walk through the park here, would be a perfect place for a picnic. Got to see some cool statues and experience music playing in the background. Even got to see a sweet unicorn statue, that i had to get a photo with! haha
Salzburg is also home to the Red Bull hanger, which is basically a real flash glass dome that has been set up as a show off museum for red bulls possessions. Many planes, motor bikes, car simulators, and race cars are housed here. As you can imagine Dan LOVED it! I thought it wasnt too bad for a guy dominated attraction. We even got to see the red bull jet pack which is featured on the red bull add. Enjoyed looking around and as expected we left thinking 'well red bull is making a mint'.
Another day trip was on the cards for us and because the weather had been so fantastic we decided to go. What a good decision that was.
Taking an hour bus trip out to St Gilgin, Strobl and Bad Ischl, which are little villages east of Salzburg, was one of the most fantastic experiences we have had yet. Imagine a picturesque country side, mountains covered in trees with a pinch of snow at the peak and houses scattered around a huge crystal clear lake. The peaceful and relaxed feeling out here was a great change to the city. The scenery was out of this world, it was so nice to sit down by the lake and soak it all up. I had heard Austria was beautiful, but never really believed it until now. Totally awesome day to finish off our Salzburg experience!
