If you really want to have a wild time on New Years eve, DON'T be in Yemen! Yemen is a facinating country filled with beautiful scenery and interesting people but its entertainment options are a little limited. My friends and I arrived in the seaside village of Mukalla hoping to enjoy a few drinks and bring in the new year. Unfortunately after walking in the hot sun for several miles to the Holiday Inn we were disappointed to find that even they only sold non-alcoholic beer.
This year the new year on the western calender happens to coincide with the Muslim festival of Eid ul-Adha which commemorates Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son for God. It is a time when families get togehter, dressed in their finest clothes sacrifice a animal, mostly goats here.
The town of Mukalla itself was a welcome change to the harsh desert climate in Seiyun. Normally, except during Eid, hundreds of fishermen go out in small boats everyday to catch fish. The town is surrounded by steep cliffs and stetches for miles along a mostly rocky beach with dark blue waters. While here Brian and I met some well educated college students who spoke fluent English. We enjoyed the evening talking and smoking a sheesha, waterpipe with flavored tobacco.

All my love to Mukalla
Mukalla is a very nice place to visit and enjoy both the goodness of people and the beautiful beaches. I think it's NOT necessary to have drinks and NOT logic to say do NOT visit Mukalla only for one reason which is ,rediculously, there's being no drinks without saying the real reasons of forbbiding drinks. Anywhy, thanks of sheding lights on my city, Mukalla, and you're welcome again and again.
Faithfully,
Nabeel
