Pacific coast party!
Well, this weekend was fantastic, even if the amount time we spent walking sandy shores and lazing about really gives us nothing to write about.
San Juan del Sur is Nicaragua's most well known beach town, and we spent most of our time on the beach. On Sunday we tried to walk to another beach, but were foiled after walking an hour and a half, when a couple of local guys told us we would get all our stuff nicked if we proceeded another further - the list of items they rattled off, that we would apparently be lightened of, included hats, jandals, wallet, bag and watch. Not wanting to walk back naked, we retraced our steps.
Not that it mattered - SJDS's perfect horseshoe shape was very picturesque and the warm waters were very inviting, and it allowed us to forget the tedium of being in Granda for a couple of days!
The most interesting episode of the weekend, was on Saturday, when we were cornered by the American owner of a little eatery we were lunching at, and regaled with snippets of his life story.
It quickly became apparent our host was a science fiction and screen play writer with delusions of grandeur . The bits of the screenplay thrust in Sam's face sounded cheesy-in-a-bad-way awful, making his constant references to 'Hollywood being very interested' sound very unlikely, despite the way he tried to make it sound as if 'Hollywood' in general was a personal friend of his.
He also thought that the Japanese detonated a nuclear weapon in Korea days after Hiroshima, and talked about obscure Jazz musicians as if we were supposed to know them (he probably made the names up) without any clear linkages to any part of the conversation that proceeded or followed it.
Anyways, sounds rather like the tales you hear on this blog - perhaps just stick to enjoying the photos when we finally get around to uploading them - peace out!

A normal day at the beach?
Title belies contents really. You made it sound so 'Janet & John', so bucket-&-spade-y until we heard about the loco locals and the pistachio with psychedelic memories of a fictionary screen career. Glad you day at the beach was so fun - and that you came back from it!
