We drove a long time today!  We started out in Niagra-On-the-Lake, ON, and finally stopped in Springfield, IL.  We drove on the north side of Lake Erie in Canada so we could touch as many of the five Great Lakes as we could!  And we only missed one - Lake Superior, which was way to far north to get to.

We had already been in Lake Onterio when we canoed in Toronto. And fed the ducks at Lake Erie at Aunt Mary & Uncle Dave's.  So today we detoured a little bit to see Lake Heron. We found a little park right off the highway after we crossed back into the United States.  We took our shoes and socks off and got our feet wet!  There was a cool lighthouse, too!

Then we off to find Lake Michigan.  We went through Indiana.  We stopped at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.  A very different place!  We took a walk down a long winding boardwalk. It came to a big concrete building with huge bathrooms and showers.  Then you go through to the other side to lots of steps that take you down to the beach.  Most everyone was packing up to go home.  There were big dark clouds in the sky.  So we took off our shoes and socks, pulled up our shorts and got our feet wet!  My camera battery died!  Phil tried to take some video, then his video camera battery died!  We may have taken some phone pics of the event...I'll have to look for them.

We felt very accomplished seeing three lakes on one day (we saw Lake Erie again after we passed Detroit),

Well, we were sooooo close to Naperville, IL, that I just had to stop in and at least be able to SAY I was there!!  My dad and my mom's dad both grew up there.  I haven't been there since I was 4.  So I called Pam and my Dad got the addresses of where they used to live.  We found one of them!  Took pictures.  Mom said we should call up Janie & Mike and drop by.  I called Janie's cell phone.  It turns out that she was a little bit out of town - in Amsterdam!   We rudely stopped by anyway!  Turns out their house is like a mile away from where my dad used to live

I was so glad to see that Mike was home!  (I went inside by myself, and got to talking to Mike. Apparently, it had been quite a while and Phil was getting worried where I'd disappeared to!)  Mike came out to greet us all. The kids got to chase some fireflies around.  We got to visit a while.  Mike won't be able to come to the Ory Reunion later this month, so I'm glad we got to see him! Fortunately, Janie will be there!

We stopped short of making it to St. Charles so we could just drive a couple hours the next day to see Pam & Mark.
