Today (7/27), Phil and the kids went fishing for half the day! And I did not!! So I've set out to catch up on stuff. Which of course means laundry. But they only have one washer & dryer here, so it's pretty slow. I've been trying to get some relaxin' done....but it doesn't feel that way. It's 70 degrees here and gorgeous! 7:00 update: Phil caught a 29 1/2 in, 8 pound lake trout! He's a happy boy! It's surf & turf for dinner! If it was 30 inches, he'd have to throw it back ;) ] Pics later!
We are staying at Lake Five Resort. A nice little campground right on the lake
We explored the Glacier National Park today. It's pretty crowded here unfortunately. Hard to find parking spots so we can visit the visitor centers and go hiking. We pulled off at a few viewpoints and took mini hikes. The water is so clear! So many waterfalls!
I saw an American Bald Eagle! And I think it may have been chasing another type of big bird - Ben says it was a California Condor? ok. - I don't have to tell you how excited I was to see that! And get a pictue of it! I saw a bald eagle yesterday too, but I didn't have my camera.
THEN we saw a grizzly bear!! From way, way, way, far away! (which is just the distance that I prefer to encounter them!) Apparently, he had just crossed the road a couple minutes before we drove by. Other visitors pointed him out to us and by that point, all you could see is his big blonde butt waddling up the hillside.
THEN at the visitor center, we saw Big Horned Sheep
And I saw a Columbian Squirrel. Quite the chatterbox.
The kids earned their 11th (am I losing count?) Junior Ranger Badges!
At the park, you drive down Road to the Rising Sun to see all the beautiful glaciers. Takes about 2 1/2 hours. There was lots of construction on the cliffs (very brave men!) and it took forever to get through. We took the "highway" home. When you go down a two lane highway and see signs that say "Winding Road", "Range Cattle" and "Loose Gravel", get ready for an interesting ride! There were cows in my way! OH! And these deer keep playing Suicide and jumping in from of you! YIKES! Even a dang dog ran out in the road in town!
So now you understand why I just let Phil drive whenever possible....
The kids got to play in the lake when we got home. Phil made a campfire and we had s'mores!
