It was an early morning for us.  We got up at 5:45 and hopped in a limo to go to Jersey!  The kids were facinated with the limo.  They watched Lady & the Tramp on the way.  And we got to drive through the Holland Tunnel which goes under the water!  The driver had never been to Liberty State Park and got hopelessly (frustratingly) lost.  Luckily, we made it to the boat on time at 8:30.  And even got tickets into the pedastal without a line.

We started at the Statue of Liberty.  Amazing how big she is!  And amazing that they built her in France and shipped her parts here to assemble.  The kids completed a workbook and earned their Junior Ranger pins for the National Park of the Statue of Liberty!   (They don't have patches here....but we don't need no stinking patches to be Official Rangers!)

We took a ride over to Ellis Island.  It was a beautiful day; no clouds like yesterday.  You may not believe this, but I happened to bump into a familiar face from St. Paschal's in Thousand Oaks!!!  (Yes, I do know people EVERYWHERE!)  A family we see at church is also visiting NYC - small world!     We saw a short movie about the immigrants who came through Ellis Island and learned all about their trials and tribulations.  It was most interesting because Ben has been studying EI in school for the past month!  They were a determined and brave group of people to weather the conditions from their homeland to their new land!

We walked around Battery Park when we got back. Walked near ground zero.  They are building a new memorial building 1776 feet high.  Lots of construction going on that will be done by 9-11-2011.   Took another double decker bus tour to get us closer to the hotel.  Great stories from the tour guide.

We found a great little restaurant, The Renissance, and had salmon and steak...and grilled cheese sandwiches.  And NY cheesecake!  Yum!  Then took a nice long walk back to the hotel to let our food settle.

We didn't get home until 11:00.
