Nipah
Spent a week in Pulau Tioman, an island off the South East Coast of Malaysia. Time magazine voted it one of the top 10 most beautiful islands in the world a few years ago so that sets the scene! It was simply the stuff that dreams are made of, my dreams anyway! We stayed away from the touristy haunts and headed to the south west of the island to a place called Nipah.

They call it a village but there is simply a restaurant and maybe twenty huts at a push and thats it, literally! There are three huts actually on the beach facing the sea and we were in the middle one! Golden sand, coconut trees, rainforest that ends in line with our huts and spreads out for acres and acres behind us, beautiful sunsets goes some way to describing it! We snorkelled, hung out in hammocks watching the many moods and shapes of the sea change and evolve before our eyes, a little sea kayaking, a lot of tumbling out of the kayak and chilled, chilled, chilled!

There were beautiful paintings done on sheets (bed sheets!) in water colours in the restaurant and the huts and Damian revealed that he is truly a man of many talents and did a sketch of the view from our door down the beach and transferred it onto one of the sheets 2m x 1m. We spent a very enjoyable day waxing and painting it, a process called batik painting. It turned out really well and after it has been treated so that the colours will stick to the sheet, for want of a more artistic term, it will be washed to get the wax off and shipped home to us!
