Where I stayed
Michael's sister Rachael and her boyfriend Nunz, aswell as our mates Troy and Jean all preceeded our visit to Port Douglas by holidaying there so we had plenty of advice ahead of our trip north. It's a lovely little town. Think Hamptons in North East Australia, with less white fences and warmer sea water. By warmer I mean - like a bath. Like, you're certainy not getting into the sea to cool down. We weren't in Port Douglas long before it started lashing, we got caught in town so we called into a car hire company, rented a Focus and drove home (with a view to driving it the next day of course!). We stayed at the YHA. The following day we drove up to Cape Tribulation. Stopped at beaches and forests along the way, where we met a rather large spider and discovered a deserted beach with had 'I love Louth' (a county in Ireland) scrawled into the sand. Ailbhe was quick to follow it up with 'But Galway is better'. When we reached Cape Tribulation it was a bit of an anti climax. Hard to compare it after seeing Abel Tasman in NZ. Perhaps we'd built it up too much in our heads..but it was a disappointment. Back to Port Douglaswhere it lashed overnight again.
