New Years Eve in Oz..pretty obvious where you're going to spend it really. We packed our bags like every other tourist in the Country and headed to Sydney. We were picked up at the airport by Harry and Sue who we met in Christchurch, which was great. Weather was quite crap that first night. They brought us for Thai in Bondi and dropped us to our Hotel. The Grand Hotel was really reasonable for the time of year and the location was awesome. Did the usual touring around that week. Bought a Red card which is 35 bucks for unlimited travel on all buses, ferries and trains so we had the run of the place. Got up a few mornings and went for a run down to the Opera House which was cool. Hooked up with Emer and Alan who we spent Christmas Day with in Melbourne. Keith and Jen our Scottish mates also turned up in the city so there was a proper reunion! Tom Ailbhe's Sister-in-laws cousin also touched base with us so we organised that we would sleep on himself and flatmate Sinead's couch once we moved out of the Grand Hotel. After much research we decided to go to a park called Nielsons Point for New Years Eve. Amazing view, free and BYO alcohol. Got to know the people sitting next to us, they had a cricket bat and we played a game using rubbish bins as wickets. We were there from 11.30am so had to keep ourselves entertained some way or another! There was a great gang in the end including Ailbhe's first cousin Paddy and mates of his. Good fun all round. We moved out of the Grand Hotel and over to Redfern to Tom and Sineads gaff. Great place, really good location across from the train station. Had a great time there, the lads were great to us. Michael returned to Melbourne for a spot of work and I stayed on for another week which involved hooking up with Emer and Alan, Keith and Jen one last time before everyone went their seperate ways. There was an work reunion by pure chance between Ailbhe and her former colleague Helen who she bumped into on the street. The Sydney Festival was also on so there were lots of events - no shortage of things to do. Managed to fit in some Bikhram Yoga also. Rough. All in all though, Sydney was amazing..can't wait to go back.
