We were divided about going to Lake Taupo. It was raining. Ailbhe's case was 'It's just another lake', Michael's: 'Sure, we'll just go and check it out, the Hostel has free internet'. The case for the free internet won out and we set off. It was raining in Taupo. Hostel was grand but our room was out the front beside the main door of the Hostel. We were in the disabled room. We decided to get some fish (afterall, we were in a lakeside town) but the fish in the Supermarket was pricey until Conneely found crumbed whiting (which was frozen - think Donegal Catch people). Paid for it and when we sat in the car and read the small print under the ingredients we realised it was made in China...so we brought it back! Went to the butcher instead and just as we were about to order the head butcher pointed at his watch telling us to hurry up, he was closing. So we walked out! Lake Taupo was coming up with all the obstacles, so we decided to hide out in the room and watch the first Lord of the Rings on the Laptop - we both fell asleep. At 2am, we woke to banging on our door..two residents of the Hostel were locked out and clearly had forgotten the code to the door. They sounded out of it. Scary stuff. Could just see the shadows outside our door as they crazily banged and banged on our door, then the hostel main door, then our door..the night porter eventually woke up after about 40 mins. Next morning we went for a walk by the lake and quickly left Lake Taupo town.
