Waitomo is famous for it's glow worm caves. There are lots of limestone caves in the area and they are full of glow worms. You can choose to black water raft through the caves (abseil into the cave and sit in a rubber tube and take it all in bobbing along) or do the easy version (sit in a dinghy and look up). Still wrecked from the Tongariro Crossing - we chose the latter! We did the Spellbound Tour which is three and a half hours long. There were 12 of us in the group . We stayed in the glow worm cave for about 40 minutes so there was plenty of time for our eyes to adjust to the dark. Back out to the sunlight for a cup of tea/coffee and some cookies - then onto the next cave which was lit, much to the delight of the little kids in our group! When we were done we asked our guide Tree, where we should go after Waitomo enroute to Aulkland. She said Raglan so we said goodbye and thanks and hit the road.
