We had been warned that rain was on the way, so it wasn't a big surprise to wake up to it lashing outside ahead of our trip to the Fox Glacier. Oh well. We were provided with wet weather gear and boots and hopped on a bus for a half day tour of the ice. You have to hike to the Glacier through a forest, walk through rivers and climb 700 steps. We were soaked by the time we got there, but it was worth it. We hopped on the Glacier where visability down the valley wasn't the best as it was teeming down but we got a fair idea of how massive the glacier is when we got on it. After about 45 minutes on the ice - just as our feet were turning numb we headed to the bus and back to Fox, the town. Had a hot chocolate, changed into some dry clothes and headed off in Karol the Corolla (yes we've christened the car and Michael insists its Karol with a 'K'!) in the direction of Greymouth.
