Big group of us went to MCG to see Ireland win..again. Wooohoooo! Sorry Grechy. Melbourne City Centre fairly busy that evening, full of very happy irish supporters.
Next day we went to Flemington Race Course for Derby Day. Myself and Michael got a great spot at 10.45am beside the mounting yard (where the jockeys get on their horses) but getting people to stop walking across our 'picnic area' proved difficult. Eventually, we borrowed police cordon off a group of lads on a stag/bucks party. Troy and Ben solved the problem by wrapping it around two bins (classy) which gave us our own exclusive spot....then the sun came out - mighty! I got interviewed by Channel 7, told the reporter that i was going for Paddy O' Reilly in the next race. Reporter: 'And who's he riding'...Me: 'Eh, that's the name of the horse'. Reporter: 'Oh right'. Raised eyebrows amongst all us punters behind the police cordon. Reporter clearly mortified: 'You may be on the 6pm news later'. I knew I wouldn't make the cut. Have heard that line before...what am i saying I've used that line before!
