Vegas. One big gambling pit in the middle of the desert. Couldn't
think of anything more vulgar or tacky to do so we got the Greyhound
(which is an experience in itself) for a three night stay. Due to the
fact Americans pack out Las Vegas at the weekends, hotels are forced
to slash prices mid-week. So, we stayed in the Stratosphere and the
Luxor for very little. The day we arrived we went to the top pool in
the Stratosphere and played pool volleyball for about three hours. It
was the only way to stay cool. The temperature was 42C and stayed like
that the three days we were there
We visited all the Casinos on the strip - there are shows etc going on
in all of them. When it came to gambling however, we were small fry.
Really small..like, 25c on those mechanical horses that go around and
around. Great fun!
Others were far more brave. We stood at one table in the Luxor
watching 20 year old Irish students at a $25 minimum roulette table.
They were betting $50 dollars per spin and they were there for a long
time. Crazy stuff. Not pleasant to watch after a while.
We went to a show which we got 2for1 tickets. American Superstars.
Cirque du Soleil was sold out! It was an awful show, cringeworthy but
only an hour long, thank god. The guy doing Michael Jackson was good
though!
There are amusements at the top of the Stratosphere and since Michael
had tried it out 5 years ago, he sent me to do the Big Shot on my own.
It's one of these rides that shoots you up in the air and then drops
from under you very quickly. Thought i was going to die.
Apart from that minor scare, Vegas was good fun. We lost money but won
it back and left the desert even steven!
