Hi all,

Not too much to report today.  We had to be out of the hotel by 10 am, and on the plane at 2. With all our luggage, there wasn't much to do but go to the airport. We got ourselves checked in and just hung out at the gate until it was time to go. Other than the wireless internet fiasco (We paid $14 for an hour. When the connection dropped moments after purchasing it, we had to try again Cool Ship

. And pay again.  Argh! I was not happy, but nothing could be done about it) it was a relaxing time. It almost felt like a vacation!

We got into Tasmania with little effort.  We grabbed our car (a Nissan Tiida) and headed to our hotel.  It has broadband in room (at $10 / hour...ouch) and has a great view of the city.  Hobart seems like a nice little port town. We walked around a bit, shopped for bread and breakfast, and are now getting ready to enjoy a pretty exciting day tomorrow.  We'll tell you about it after it happens, but suffice it to say we may be on a bit of a sugar buzz tomorrow evening. And from then on out.

Later,
Aaron

Greetings from Tassie!

Goodbye, big city Sydney.  Hello, laid back Hobart.  We spent almost three and a half hours at the Sydney airport (not enough time to do anything in the city, but we had to check out of the hotel).  Then it was a short two hour flight to Tasmania, a small island state south of the Australian mainland.

Happily, we have a car again.  Sydney's transportation system is fabulous, but having a car is a lot easier way to move our luggage around.  Our hotel is only a short fifteen minute drive from the airport Salamanca Square

.  It's a pretty nice place right in the middle of everything.  We're situated in Battery Point, Hobart's historic district near the harbor.  And, since Hobart is the second oldest city in Australia, there's a lot of history here.

We walked to dinner (I know, I just said I was happy to have a car, but that doesn't mean we can't walk a kilometer for food).  I was surprised how familiar the city is.  I was only here for a weekend seven years ago, but I remembered exactly where the bakery was and how to navigate our way around the waterfront.  I even found the pub we went to back in the day - Irish Murphy's.

We continued walking for awhile after eating.  We made our way to the Central Business District (nothing like Sydney's CBD) and back down to St. David's Park.  St. David's Park is pretty cool.  I can't remember the history exactly, but I know it has something to do with once being a cemetery as is evident from the headstones along the walls (see pictures).

We're resting up tonight; the rest of the Tasmanian experience is pretty busy.  We have ideas for each day from here on out.  I'm not sure what I'm looking forward to the most, but tomorrow should be great!  We'll tell you all about it in 24 hours.

Talk to you then,
Denise

it is 7:30pm on Thursday night here, I was just going to enter a comment on yesterdays (wednesday the 6,) travel pod,( I didn't have time this morning) and there you two were with another entry from the next day!!! It's so confusing!!!! I figure that you must only have 12 hour days instead of 24. I bet I know where you'll get the sugar buzz from. Have fun!!! Watch out for those little devils!!!

Aaron, remember that game we saw at Van Andel, well, they are now 8-2 and ranked #25. Did you see what I saw while there, some major change from what we saw, huh? Looks again like you guys are doing fine, the underwater deal sacared me just reading about it. The up on the bridge was way up my alley, that looked like great fun.
