While we were here we wandered up and down Khaosan Road lots of times just taking everything in, looking here there and everywhere. We have never been anywhere like it and it was a big culture shock.. In a good way though. I loved all the markets and cheap clothes but we'll save buying anything til our last few days. Actually I'm lying, I (Danielle) ordered a fitted suit that we'll pick up at the end of our trip
We both got pedicures done for 3 pounds each and ate yummy street food including noodles and fresh fruit, dinner for a pound.. Can't complain! We didn't fancy trying the fried cockroaches, scorpions or maggots though even though George thought she'd be able to.. Got a few pics though, that's all we could stomach.
On one day we decided to go and see all the sights.. the grand palace, the giant golden buddha, etc. We looked for a taxi and even though Alex warned me about the tuk tuk scams we still fell for one lol but oh well we still got to do what we wanted. We asked for them to take us to the grand palace for 100 Baht (total) which is two pounds but they told us it wasn't open till midday which we found out later was a big fat lie. The tuk tuk man said because it wasn't open til later for an extra 100 baht he would take us to all the other places too so we thought this was a good deal as we got to see everything. £4 to be driven around all day to all the sights is good enough for us! On the way he took us to two tailor shops because he gets free fuel tokens for taking people there and more if people buy stuff. I did want a suit so I asked prices but the man wanted 180 pounds which was way to much and we couldn't get him down any less than 100, stupid salesman started too high.
All the temples we saw were amazing so many buddahs everywhere and lovely smell of incense everywhere too. More street stalls and people after your money, but the food is immense! George was very happy with her chicken on a stick for 40p! The grand palace was very grand indeed and we are glad we went to see it, out of respect we had to wear shirts and George had to wear a long skirt too as you have to cover up completely and take of your shoes when entering the temples. Lets just say we were very thankful for the big fans in the buildings.. Two layers of clothing, 33 degrees... Sweaty Bettys!
We chilled on the roof top pool on our last day before we left for the train station. We loved Bangkok but have never sweated so much in our lives lol.. can't wait to come back at the end of our trip. Especially to replace all the clothes we've ruined throughout our trip.. Or some of them at least, money dependant!
