We only went a very brief ride down the autobahn today. we wanted to get to somewhere we could get Di's bike checked over and we thought we'd be in Magdeburg early enough to have a really decent look around. Sadly...

We had the most weird experience with one of the GPSs. We were trying to get get to a bike shop. The thing took us in a loop FOUR times on and off the autobahn. We were both getting pretty shitty in our own particular ways. All we wanted to do was get into town from our hotel.

So Dave pulled in to a servo and asked a gruff looking grizzled old biker on a Harley outfit how we could get into town without winding up back on the insanity of the autobahn again. Well, he was as gruff as he looked and he was definitely a pretty tough old buzzard, but he earned our gratitude by telling us to follow him. He took us on an easily 20 minute trip into and across town and delivered us to the front door of the Triumph dealershsip. We wouldn't have got there in a week. We didn't even get his name but he finally smiled and gave us a wave goodbye  when we said a heartfelt Danke. Another top member of the biking brotherhood (and sisterhood). The last few metres he decided we'd cut out the tedious waiting at the lights to turn the corner and drove his outfit up onto the footpath and turned right. As we didn't know where we were, we had to follow him. Up onto the footpath, round the corner. Fortunately for our nerves (and licenses maybe) the dealer was only a few doors down.

And the mechanic at the dealer checked out Di's bike on the spot, made a small adjustment, and waved us off with no fee. Excellent! Magdeburg Triumph, you're in the good guys tent.

The Hotel Classik is one of those hotels which is used a lot by travellers for work and it hosts conferences and seminars etc. So it looks good but bland, everything worked as it should, the staff were excellent and the restaurant was really good. And it was really cheap. It's a bit out of town so we ate there for dinner rather than exploring town and finding somewhere interesting. We thought we'd get to look the town over in the morning. However that didn't happen so it was a missed opportunity.

We've put a couple of pictures up. You'll see from the photos that between Wurzen and Magdeburg the topography changed and for the first time in weeks we're in quite flat country. Still nice windy roads now we've decided to stay right away from the autobahn..
