Where I stayed
Somehow though we managed to purchase tickets for the correct train & then actually get on it, & off, at the right stop. Port Royal. How exciting to emerge finally on the streets of Paris & in the artistic Latin quarter at that.
The day so far has been very small with a brief stroll through Jardin du Luxembourg & a wander up & down the road the motel is on. Boulevard du Montparnasse. Sounds grand & is a bit with lots of beautiful architecture a wide tree lined streets.
Cafes & restaurants are everywhere & of every nationality you could want for
One thing that particularly struck us is the way the seating & tables are set up out the front of the cafes. Instead of having the chairs clustered around each table, the chairs are set up in rows all facing the front as if you were sitting at the movies.
In between strolls we found somewhere for lunch. This was quite difficult as we needed somewhere where we could make sense of the menu & where the staff may also be able to make sense of us.
Somehow we got away with it. . . . but not without a few discreet smiles from the other side of the counter.
