We shower, dress and I hit the internet to find a company that looks suitable. I ring Papillion Helicoper tours and go straigh to and hold message bank. It is a bad line and whilst waiting I find another company - this is the age we live in now, if you can't be there for a customer watch out cause they will google someone else and dump you in seconds.
We manage to get a spot on the 1pm flight. Yippee we will see one of the Wonders of the World. We are told to meet the shuttle at the Venetian ground transport area at 11.40am for pick up. At 11.20am we leave our room and cross from our casino through to the Venetians, coming eventually out at the lobby and taxi pick up only to discover that we aren't in the right area and have 5 minutes to find it
We both look at each other confused and I decide to follow the shuttle arrow and I discover a different area that says Ground Transport, I run back to Andrew and we madly walk at top speed back to the shuttle area. It is now 11.45am, we find the Maverick bus but no driver, he is obviously looking for us. We stay where we are and wait, eventually he turns up.
We board the bus and appologise to the other guy that has been sitting patiently on the bus. Eventually we manage to pick everyone else up and head to McCarren airport for our breifing and takeoff.
The day is perfect and we walk out to the tarmac and board our helicopter. The pilot selects one couple to sit up front but she chickens out, thank goodness cause we then skip up the front.
Might I just say that on board we have one couple from Ireland, a single guy from Brazil and a single guy from Switzerland. The other five, we did not hear a peep out of and it was Andrew and I that did all the talking, we came out looking like the loud mouth couple from Australia, so I do appologise to fellow Aussies for giving this reputation to fellow travellers
We take off and head towards lake Mead where we fly over Hoover Dam. We got a pretty good view from the helicopter and circled around so everyone on board could see it.
From there we head towards the canyon and and make a landing to a spot where we can see the Colorado river and the West Rim. We also fly over the skywalk, which is the new glass walkway over the edge of the canyon.
We come in for a landing and depart the helicopter. The pilot pours us a glass of champagne and spreads out a picnic of snacks.
We take a few photos and then notice all the chipmonks that come bouncing over to us, with the hope of food coming their way. We are told not to feed them but I wish I could they are so cute.
After a while we take off and fly back over the canyon, seeing some great views and fly over the rim of fire. Eventually we arrive back at the airport and head back to the shuttle for our trip back to the hotel.
All in all it was a great flight and fantastic to see the Canyon. We got to the lowest spot that helicopters are allowed to fly in, so we couldn't of done any better on such a short time frame
Tonight we are off to the Rio casino to see the Penn & Teller show. We are looking forward to this one, it should be fun. For anyone who doesn't know who they are, they have a tv show called Bullsh$#t, which dispells myths and they are famous for being magicians that kinda give away there tricks, although you have to be pretty quick to pick it up. We have front row centre seats and if we are picked on, I will kill Andrew for making me get these seats.
We then have a very early flight to Denver and then catch the connection to Hayden in Colorado, so at this stage we don't know what our internet situation will be, so hopefully I will be able to add more when we get there, otherwise hang in there guys.
