Bill, our travel agent, sent us to the airport in this stretch limo. We think it's the first time either of us, as old as we are, has been in a stretch limo.
A Regent representative met us at in baggage claim at Ft. Lauderdale. Regent shipped six huge bags from our apartment on Dec. 29, so I was surprised to discover that we still needed to take as much additional luggage on the flight as the airlines allowed:
The Regent rep drove us and another world cruise couple to the Four Season's hotel for the gala evening before launch.
There was a crowd of world cruisers all getting checked in at the hotel. Standouts (besides ourselves, of course) were 2 middle aged gay guys wearing what we later found out was self-designed jewelry insured for $12 million!
We world cruisers met each other at a cocktail party in the hotel. We felt pretty isolated because there were over 200 repeat world cruisers, and they just took over the party, they were so happy to see each other.
Dinner was very swank, as you would expect at the Four Seasons. Multiple courses, seated at tables for 8. There was a band playing during dinner, so it was really hard to hear. The man on my right was hard of hearing and I had his bad ear, but aside from that, he kept spitting on me when he talked to me.
The couple on John's left were very nice--Jane and John, who show up later in the voyage. Still, it was awfully difficult to get to know people due to the size of the table and the noise. There probably wasn't any expectation that we'd make friends at this point, anyway. All in all, just as luxurious as we hoped.
