Bonjour from sunny(ish) France. So 3 days in and so far so good.
My first night I spent with the very hospitable Avril and Geoff in Wye. I must confess day 1 was a bit further than I had planned. Although my trained eye said the map showed about 60kms, it turned out to be more than 100kms. Hope my whole itinerary isn't out comparably! Wye gets 3 stars, but 5 stars if you get to stay at Avril and Geoffs!! Cheers guys!
Day 2 was a 40km dawdle to Dover. I took a short cut so it turned into 55 kms. Then the Dover to Dunkirk ferry ended up landing 15 kms from Dunkirk. :( Once I'd visited the war museum and the beach, I was fairly happy to get back on the bike the next morning. 2 stars.
Day 3 to Ypres (aka Ieper). I only realised on day 3 that the place I'd been telling everyone that was Leper, was actually spelt with a capital "I", not an "L". Apologies to all the Belgian folk I must have offended. Ypres actually looks pretty cool and with all the WW1 stuff around here I thought I´d give it an extra day.
Key Learnings so far:
- My GBP20 bike shorts are made of a fabric similar to sandpaper
- See Day 1-3.
Otherwise all is going well. Legs feel fine, knees are a little tender. The folk here are all quite friendly indeed.
Until later, this is Cycling Azza saying Aurevoir.
ps I´ll post some pics when I find a decent computer...
