Jogjakarta was pretty boring but nice to change the pace. We visited two temples, Borobudur and Prambanan. Two things that were different then the norm that occurred was eating Cobra and getting whiskey. The cobra tasted very fatty. It reminded me of what fried pig intestine taste like. I didn’t like it but Jose said he enjoyed it. Getting alcohol was an one hour adventure. This is a very strict Muslim part of Indonesia so selling alcohol is very difficult. We had to buy it on the black market after we couldn’t find it in any store. We had our driver the one who took us from Mt Bromo help us. We pulled up to a random young guy and asked him were we could get some whiskey. After a crazy looking stare to make sure we weren’t cops he told us to hop on his motorbike with him. So three of us proceeded down the back alley neighborhood on one bike. You heard that correctly. 3 on 1 bike. Pretty weird for me but nothing for them. We pulled up to a very small neighborhood market were there were two girls maintaining the shop. After a few quick words exchanged she uncovered a hidden area and handed us 4 small bottles of whiskey with a total cost of $15 because I tipped the driver $2. I cant believe how long it took us to buy hard alcohol but in the end it was well worth it. Tomorrow we head for Singapore for a day and then to Bangkok.
