Well, this week was somewhat of a downer, although I did have a chance to have some fun going out. After returning from some not-so-great weather in Melbourne, the weather this past week has been what can only be described as dreary. The temperature hasn't gotten past 70 degrees (I know, I'm nitpicking here), and it has rained pretty much all day each day. I haven't seen the sun in a week. At this point, with the forecast looking pretty much the same the next couple of days, I'm just hoping it gets nice again by the time Courtney and Andy arrive early next week. Andy's flight actually leaves tomorrow from Ohio, so that will have to come pretty quickly.
I had my first test in Australia on Wednesday in my Financial Strategy class. I probably could have not studied at all or could have studied for 20 hours and would have probably had the same result- the questions really weren't about the stuff covered in class. It was much more about just thinking about stuff I already knew. I'm sure I did okay on it- probably at least an 80% (which is just fine, since I only need to get 50% in the class). Howver, I have been told and have taken notice that they grade on a much more difficult standard here. I turned in a paper for my negotiations class that would be a sure thing B or better in the U.S., but I received a 9.8 out of 15, which is a 65%. Ouch. Again, though, I only need a 50%, so no big deal.
Other than that, I haven't really been able to go do anything because of the weather. The beach has been a no-go and it's not really worth going to any sites. I guess I could hit up a museum or something, but I don't really have a lot of interest in going to see the Australian art museum that only has Australian artists and paintings I've never seen or heard of.
In terms of nightlife, I went out Thursday and Friday nights. Thursday, Ryan and I went down to a bar in the yuppie neighborhood of Paddington appropriately named the Paddington Inn, and then moved on to the closest fun bar to my place called Fringe Bar. A girl we've made friends with here named Dani who is a doctor at the hospital right by our place joined us out for a few drinks, but we called it quits around 11 because nothing was really going on due to the rain. Friday night we headed down to Darling Harbour, which is full of restaurants and bars, and met some girls we've met here that work at a real estate developer for happy hour. Lenny came and met Ryan and I, and when the girls we met up with left, we stayed and went to Bungalow 8, which is one of my favorite places I've been out here. We stayed there the rest of the night, and on the way home, Ryan and I stopped for a slice of pizza on Oxford Street near our house. Of course, we saw a big fight, one guy get cuffed, and then 8 cops sprinting down the street to chase another guy. We later saw that guy in cuffs and his buddy was shoving the cops and arguing with them. Not so smart.
So, not much else to report, other than the fact that I've found another new love here in Sydney, and that is Mad Mex. Okay, so Mad Mex is really just a Sydney copy of Chipotle, but I am thrilled to have found it. It either must be owned by Chipotle, or is a direct copy of it, but their website says they only have two of them here, but if I could somehow invest in Mad Mex, I would, because there is obviously huge growth potential. Alright, next time I write will probably be when the siblings are in town.
