A quiet day on the canal today, we went for a walk through La Gacilly which was very pretty and old, and through a street market of antiquities before going to the Boucherie where we bought some local ham, very nice and a chicken Ratatouille for tea and that was very nice too!

Then we went back down the tight wee river we came up the night before and saw how pretty it was in the daylight – didn't see any otters though so it made the night before special.

Stopped just short of the lock at Painfaut (sounds  rude doesn’t it!) as the locks close between 1230 – 1330 for lunch, so we had ours then got the bikes out and went for a wee ride back up the canal, then down to the lock to check it out before we attempted it.

Turned out it was nothing to worry about, the lock keeper comes out and opens the gates, we drove in, held onto ropes he dropped to us so we could steady the boat as it went up, then drove out into the main Canal de Nantes a Brest which was just like you would imagine it, straight as a die with rows of trees either side, it was just a shame it was still grey and overcast with occasional showers.

Didn’t matter though because it gave the girls a chance to sit at the table and catch up on their diaries and folders with their brochures in.

Carried on to St Martin where we stopped for the day and Sue must have charmed the locals as an old French man stopped in his car, came on board and gave her a red rose.   We went for a walk around the wee village of Le Guelin before cooking tea, then Sue, Olivia and Sara went for another bike ride.
