Well, Lyn, Tegz and I have been really ill. We don't know whether it's altitude sickness, or whether it's the flu. It's got flu like symptoms, like aching all over, loss of energy etc, but the shortness of breath etc makes me think it's more likely altitude related. This area is known for it; endurance athletes come to train here, and there were fact sheets in our house about what to do about it. Basically we just have to wait, drink lots and acclimatise. We're just all wiped out, apart from Io; maybe because he's young and fit! Even Ci has been complaining of headaches.
So we had an easy day, chilled all morning, then went back up the Tioga Pass, where we somehow found the energy to get out of the car and sit on the rocks by Tenaya Lake, where tthe kids had fun swimming in the freezing cold water
We didn't even eat much yesterday. Rare for the Evans', we really must be ill!
We had a quiet night, watching a film in our cinema room, till Cian went and fell on a sharp bit of mechanism in the reclining chairs. He had a really nasty gash, and needed to go to hospital. Only problem was Lyn had been drinking Bourbon, and luckily I' d only had 1 glass of Tia Maria. The time had come! I had to drive in America! And drive the biggest bloody beast ever, not feeling well, and shaken up over what had happened to Cian! Luckily the hospital was really close, and te roads really quiet at 10.30pm. I got us all there in 1 piece, after Lyn had rung the insurance company.
Thankfully, the kids were brilliant. Io & Tegz had to wait nearly 4 hours in the waiting room. We were ages being seen, as there had been a major incident. Ci was so brave, as Nurse Jim cleaned his wound, and eventually Dr Swisher sewed him up! We even had fun as Cian tried to pee in a bottle, and sprayed his dads shorts
Hi is now the proud owner of 3 stitches, and a bright green bandage! We have to go back to the hospital on Friday to check for infection, and then back to hospital in 8-10 days to have the stitches removed. By this time we'll be in Zion.
The biggest problem is he has to keep the leg relatively straight, and totally dry; so this means no rock climbing, hiking, soaking in the hot tub, swimming in rivers, streams or lakes or Vegas pools! This has a serious impact on our holiday!
We're all knackered today, as we didn't get in till 2.30 am, so it's 12.20pm, and we're all now awake and looking for breakfast. Think we'll have another quiet day today, lol!
