After a late night of last minute packing, cleaning, painting, and tie-purchasing, we got up on the first day of our vacation and cooked up a lovely brunch to share with our housesitter and Curtis' parents. I would include a picture of my oven omelette, but we didn't actually eat it--it was still sitting on the stove--it was last seen sitting on the stove because we were too full to eat it buy the time it was done cooking! We had rosemary potatoes, croissants, a French press, hot cross buns, fruit salad, juice, and farmer's sausage. When we left, our cat had already slipped into Stage II of separation anxiety and had retreated to his den under the chair.

We drove to Seattle, enjoying the sunshine and the verdant green understory in the bare forests. In every direction, the horizon was laced with snow capped mountains, and this was before we even left British Columbia. Is it the fact that we're on vacation, or just the fact that I've been wearing polarized sunglasses, that everything is a bit more beautiful than it was last week when I was working?

We had fish & chips at the market in Seattle with Curtis' parents and a delicious caramel macchiato before checking into our hotel, where we are now basking in the fluorescent lights in the hotel. The adrenaline of getting ready has subsided, and now we're just waiting to take in the new sights through the eyes of vacationers.
