What I did
As we were about to exit the last set of stairs at the station to bring us up to street level, all hell broke out. I thought we were on a movie set. This black guy started shouting "LEAVE ME ALONE MOTHER F..KER, GET OUTA MA FACE YA MOTHER F..KER." He fired off at least 10 MF's in 30 seconds. Meanwhile the security guys were pretty cool and never raised their voices, just kept moving him along
The Good Hotel is adequate but definitely in the more colourful end of town. We dumped our bags off at the hotel reception as we were too early to book in. Time to test our nerves out on the street. At first it felt quite confronting, I'm not sure if most of them are homeless or just mentally challenged. We were walking behind someone who we suspect was male, but not sure, the clothing was a little of both, purple leggings, striped red & white jumper, pink beanie, striped sox and green crocs that didn't fit. Quite a few down and outs in wheel chairs that like to hurl abuse at you as you walk pass. "Whatcha starin out MOTHER F..KER?" Is the most common thing you hear on the streets eventhough you are not staring at them. By far the funniest one was a tall yougish black guy who had his back to us but we kid hear him laughing his head off. When he turned around he was holding a french stick in front of his willy and shouting out "I GOT BIG BREAD, CAN YA ALL SEE MY BIG BREAD, I GOT BIG BREAD." He thought he was hilarious, we suspect he may have had a little whacky backy
About 5pm we decided to try and find the hotel that we will be transferring to on Thursday for the start of our next tour. Fred was in charge of the map. We knew where to go but he decided we should try a different route that looked a bit shorter. Good choice Fred. We passed by a police car that had stopped and was frisking down a black youth. We had actually stumbled into a very seedy part of town. I was feeling a bit nervous, but Fred didn't seem to bother too much he just walked a bit quicker.
Night life is a whole new ball game. The homeless start to take up their spots for the night. The breeze was really cold, I just can't imagine what it's like to live this life, no wonder they get drunk and take drugs, I can't sleep when I'm cold, when you see stuff like this it makes you appreciate the life you have, what things are important, and what is not.
Our room at the Good Hotel is on the ground floor situated in the courtyard. I think we had someone with a clubfoot in the room above, every time they walked around there was a thump. What was I saying about some things being important and some not? Not important.
