At 11.15am this morning Fred & I boarded our flight to Los Angeles, 12 hours  15 minutes and 5 movies later, with the aid of a tail wind (nothing to do with what Fred or I had eaten) we were set to land a half an hour ahead of schedule.  Our first attempt to land was suddenly aborted, funnily enough Fred had only just remarked that he thought that we were still quite high considering that the map was showing that we would be landing in 2 minutes.  Nothing like an aborted landing to jangle the nerves, especially when you have been awake for 20 hours.

By the time we had collected our baggage and cleared customs it was probably about 9am.  I should also mention that it was still the 31st of July, we had just gained an extra day in our lives.

Call me foolish if you like but I had decided that we would make our own transfer arrangements from LAX.  I had done my homework, it didn't appear to be that difficult to catch public transport from the airport, and quite a bit cheaper than the transfer charges on offer.  We exited arrivals and headed for the bus terminal.  There was every private bus imaginable transferring passengers to their respective hotels, but there didn't seem to be any public buses stopping in this area.  After several enquiries it appeared that we needed to do a bit of walking in order to locate any form of public transport.  There was quite a sharp intake of breath when I mentioned that our hotel was in the La Mirada district.  OH! that's a long way out, it will take you 3 hours to get there, one very helpful person told us.  At this point I'm thinking we must be closer to the Mexican border than LA.  Out of interest  I thought I might just enquire about the cost of a Taxi.  Upwards of $80, probably closer to $100  was not the answer I was looking for.  Oops!

Finally a bit of good news, we were directed to the Super Shuttle stand.  A very nice lady put us on her list and told us to sit on the bench and she would call us up when she had someone going our way, the good news was it was only going to cost $37.  Yippee, happy with that.
Our Super Shuttle finally arrived.  No problems with seating as we were the only passengers.  LAX airport is huge, but it's even bigger when you circle it 3 times.  The ever alert Fred happen to mention that he was either experiencing Deja` vu or we were going in circles.  The driver confirmed that we where indeed circling the airport in a bid to pick up a few more fares before taking us to La Mirada.  After the 3rd try, he threw in the towel, and we were at last on the way to our hotel.

It was indeed quite a long way out.  We had to kill a couple of hours before we could book into our room by which time Fred & I were pretty tired. After a shower and a good nights sleep we should be ready for our big day out tomorrow when we will be checking out LA and Universal Studios.
