The only disappointment with last nights free camp was the toilet block.  It was seriously disgusting made worse by the fact that there wasn't any water to flush the toilets, on these occasions it's good to have your own facilities.  Ninety percent of the rest areas we have used have been clean, Cairns Council do an excellent job, and are top of the polls for me.We decided that today would be a bit chilled out, no hurry to get anywhere.  Our first stop was Cardwell.  It's such a pretty place, Hinchinbrook Island is a stones throw from the mainland and then you have the mountain range practically in everyone's back garden.  We were going to have a walk out on the jetty, but there was so much beautification going on on the foreshore, and heaps of road works taking place that we decided that we would pay a visit to Caldwell some other time.  I think in another year or two this little town will be an absolute stunner.

On impulse I got Fred to turn off the highway and follow the signs for Halifax & Taylors Beach.  Oh what a good call, Taylors beach is just a sleepy little village with one shop, a caravan park and several houses.  It was just gorgeous.  Although we didn't stop in Halifax it was a little bigger than Taylors Beach and very quaint.  From there we followed the back roads through the cane fields into Ingham.  It was meandering at it's best, just driving along at a snails pace enjoying the beautiful scenery.

We had a few places lined up to stay tonight, the first two camp sites were full but we struck lucky when we drove into Saunders Park, which is about 24 k's out of Townsville right on the beach with views to Magnetic Island. Best part is It's another free camp site, can you believe that? We're using the camp oven to night, Fred's been getting it all fired up and the pork is about to go in, which means it's wine o'clock.

PS  I just want to have a grumble about rude mannered people, indulge me.  Today we were lined up in the express que in Woolworths.  I think express que is a bit of an exaggeration as there was only one check-out operator and at least 6 people in the line.  We were third in line when another check-out lady tapped me on the shoulder and told me to come to the next till that she was about to open.  Fred being the good soul that he is asked the lady in front of us if she would like to go ahead of us being as she was next in line.  With that she turned abruptly around and with out so much as a smile pushed passed me to get to the check-out.  I made a point of very loudly saying "Oh thank you very much."  She gave me a very furtive look and mumbled something that sounded like thank you.  Honestly, where have manners gone.  She was very rude and I hope that when she unpacks her shopping she feels suitably ashamed at being reminded to say a simple word - thank you.
