Having all arrived in one piece we celebrated with a lovely cold kingfisher beer which we took to the top of a sand dune to watch the sun go down. So peaceful! We kept getting lovely smells wafting up from the camp as the camel drivers prepared our meal. One of the camel boys bought us up freshly cooked pakoras to stop us from starving as we waited for our main meal to be cooked.
We arrived back at the hotel at 11pm and I was not feeling well and by the time I reached my room at the Deepak I was firing from both ends. I feel I've succumbed to Delhi Belly. Praise the Lord that this episode did not happen on the way back to the Deepak! - I'm almost certain I would have been thrown out the car.
Quote of the day from Doris when she mounted her camel. "Do you know, I can't remember the last time I had my legs so wide apart."
7th SEPT JAILSALMER - JODHPUR
We caught the midday bus to Jodhpur, a nine hour bus ride. I was really not well - I had a temperature and the trots and I prayed to God that I didn't disgrace myself on the bus. I hadn't eaten or barely drunk anything since last night. The bus journey is a bit of a blur as I slept for most of the way. Best purchase for this trip - my squidgy plush travel pillow, a Godsend.
It was raining when we arrived in Jodhpur, I went straight to bed. The next day DJ organised a doctor to visit me, he gave me a shot in the bum and copious amounts of tablets to be administered by Florence Nightingale (aka Fred). I was forced to consume a piece of dry toast & water so that I could take my medication. Man I felt ill. It appears to be food poisoning, which is quite weird as I have had the same as everybody else. Can't really tell you much about Jodhpur as I didn't really see it!
8th SEPT JODHPUR - UDAIPUR
We booked a private car to take 5 of us to Udaipur. Apparently the scenery is quite stunning and also we were able to stop the car at any time, should those amongst us who are feeling a little fragile find it necessary. I'm feeling a little better, but not much. Along the way, Doris became unwell, she's been falling asleep all over the place.
9th Sept Hotel Narayan Niwas.
Wow! what a view, quite spectacular. I'm pleased to say I'm back in the land of the living, which I am very grateful for, as there's so much to see here, it's hard to know where to start. There are about 3 palaces built on the lake, one of which is the very expensive Palace Hotel. Apparently some of the scenes for the Bond movie Octopussy were shot there. On the rooftop of our hotel there is a nightly showing of Octopussy - the locals are quite proud of their claim to fame
