We blew the budget on Koh Jum island near Krabbe for a Christmas treat. Fabulous bungalow and pool made it easier to be away from family and friends. It was here that the Seibits helped the fisherman with their boat foundation and so it was great to see boats with Cochrane and Canmore written on them. They are now developing a boutique resort just down the beach from where we stayed.
Deb's dad, Yan and Mandy joined us after Christmas which was great.
We went for a day tour out to Koh Phi Phi where Deb and I met John Oliver 19 years ago. Just 2 years ago the Tsunami was quite devastating here as the 7 metre wave (more a wall of water than a wave) pummelled the island pushing many across the island into the bay on the other side, the wave then 'wrapped' around the island and pushed people back on to the land. It was quite sobering to hear people who were there tell their stories.
We visited one beach with monkeys who were not shy about coming out to get some food from us. The most brave (or hungry) even swam out to the boat. We also went snorkelling here... on one stop Deb was already in the water and yelled for me to throw her another mask as she couln't get a god seal. Our Thai boatman started laughing and yelled out to a nearby boatman which although my Thai isn't very good went something like - "get a load of this crazy tourist who still hasn't realized that the reason her mask isn't fitting is that she is still wearing her big sunglasses".
Chevy saw a reef shark (safe variety) when she was in the water which got her quite excited.
