We flew into Nairobi and were feeling a little anxious because of all the crime stories we have heard from travellers. We stayed at the Norfolk Hotel (a Fairmont property) and famous because 'Out of Africa's' Karen Blixen used to stay here. 'Gentlemen' used to sit on the verandah and shoot animals in the swamp across the road. It was a luxurious start to the trip.
I was surprised how much English is spoken here and all of the signs are in English. There are 42 tribes in Kenya and most people speak three languages: their own tribe, Swahili and English.
