Still licking my wounds from losing the vote on going to Washington, DC. we headed off to Gettysburg the decisive battle in the American civil warin 1863. Just 3 days of fighting left 51,000 dead. Some 7 million bullets were fired and incredibily the museum has 2 bullets fired from opposing sides that collided in mid-air and welded together. The interpreter told of a women who left her home in Gettysburg during the battle. When she returned her entire hous was empty (including her husband who left to serve. All that remained was two blood soaked mattresses that she dragged out of the house. While 6 months pregnant she buried 100 men herself.
