Where I stayed
The team slept pretty week last night and this morning it was up and at 'em early to get to church. We attended services at Harvest Church in Kangemi and Pastor Stanko spoke at both services. The people were gracious, the worship was lively and wonderful (lots of dancing), and everyone was impacted by the enthusiastic participation of the Kenyan believers
Then it was back to the hotel for some lunch, rest and an evening meeting with two of our hostesses for the week here in Nairobi. One was Margaret Oketch, director of the SARAH Network here in Nairobi, and Dr. Stanko's friend, Kentice Tikolo, head of corporate communications for the Kenya Wildlife Service. Both Margaret and Kentice gave the team some personal background and helped the team understand the critical needs here in Kenya for educational material and educational reform. We cannot begin to understand what the people go through here with the HIV/AIDS pandemic and poverty, but there were many tears shed in this evening's meeting as people talked, asked questions, shared stories and listened.
The team asked questions, gave the two ladies some of their own background info and then we set our schedule through Wednesday for here in Nairobi. Dr. Stanko presented $3,000 to Margaret from the Sophia Fund to be used for feeding orphans and widows. Tomorrow the team will visit the Each One Touch One Orphanage, on Tuesday Upako Centre and on Wednesday WAPIS. Dr. Stanko also has some surprises (good ones) planned for the team, so the next few days will be exciting, exhilarating, and a learning experience.
Please help us spread the word about this blog site and tell everyone who may know any on the team that all are really doing well. We understand Pittsburgh had quite a bit of snow. We had temperatures in the high 70s today. Oh well, serving Jesus does have its benefits.
