I am writing this article from Jeremy Letham’s New York City, but I warn you it is very much unlike any city I have ever seen before. The people seem tired and worn out, with little motivation or interest in life beyond getting through the day
. With such a depressed atmosphere, everyone looks a good deal older than they should, and the whole city has taken on an air of death. Of course, it could be in part a result of the decline of the big business and financial centers that once formed the heart of the city. With all of the traditional jobs gone, the people have taken to selling goods on the streets for money, and any street corner will have its share of fruit and vegetable peddlers as well as people selling old books and movies. There are several local newspapers, but they seem to contain more fiction than fact. The rumor is that there is a huge tiger loose in the city, and although it has caused extensive damage, it has yet to have actually been seen. Although rumors like this could very likely be spread on purpose by the mayor’s office, in an attempt to spread fear and stay in power. They provide the only stable jobs these days, and are able to run the city like a well oiled machine.
I have met a small circle of close friends, and despite their eccentricity, I believe they might be the only sane ones left in this dying city. Together, we are trying to get to the bottom of these rumors and hopefully find out what is causing this once great city to fall into such decay.
