Climbed and Climbed Again

Hi ya all!

If yesterday was about sprinting across the desert, today was about climbing up mountains.  There were bits where we weren't climbing but these were just suckers sections to lull you into a false sense of achievement.
Out of Wickenburg there was a steady climb across the desert but after 15 miles we could see our route up a road cut into the side of a mountain.  After another two miles we started into an unrelenting 7.2 mile climb; not extreme but definitely 'granny' ring and the lower range of the rear cogs.  This took us to Yarnell Pass and the first refreshment stop.
There was then a long descent to a valley that looked level but wasn't and actually involved a long up gradient and there was a headwind.  The best part of the day was thereafter when it was (you guessed) back into a switch back climb of around 14 miles with many false summits but through the most gorgeous forest of Ponderosa pines.  The fragrance was overwhelming.  Eventually another pass at 6,100ft but this was not the end of the climbs because the rest of the route to the final drop to Prescott was up and down just below the level of the pass.  The road is in excellent condition, far better than anything in the UK and with very little traffic.
Prescott marks the start of the high desert and is another 'cowboy' town.
60 miles of strenuous riding in warm/hot sun so we felt we had earned a couple of local beers purely for medicinal purposes taken on a sun drenched roof bar.
Now for a steak!

Bloody big place, isn't it?

Based on the size of that climb, and the first consumption of beer - I would say 'it is all downhill from here ...'

Well done both of you, hope you'll have a gentler day's riding next!
