We were up bright and early and all packed waiting for Enterprise to give us a call to confirm our 8am pick-up. When RC made the reservation yesterday the fellow in the phone said that they would call at 7:30 to confirm the appointment and pick-up information.

When we hadn't heard anything by 7:38, RC called the location and was told that they would not come and pick us up because we were outside their area for pick-up. They gave him the number for the Barrone St. location, which had no cars available. The lady who answered, Cat, again said that they had no cars available, but RC had a confirmation number and asked her to make the rental happen. After a couple of minutes she came on and said that we were set to go.

We got picked up, taken to the office, signed all of the paperwork, and were off to Alabama.

We drove over the 24 mile long causeway on Lake Ponchartrain and picked up US 90 east. We followed the old road all the way to Mobile. Driving along the beachfront in Biloxi was an experience because it was so windy. There was sand on the road surface and traffic was just motoring on.

When we got into Mobile we were looking for a place for lunch when Jim called and asked for an update. We told him where we were and he had a couple of recommendations for lunch. We found The Original Oyster house and had a lovely lunch there. We had some hurricane shrimp, fried green tomatoes, lumpy crab cakes and a couple cups of gumbo, topped off with a slice of peanut butte chocolate chip pie. Yummy.

We headed for the interstates and beat feet for Auburn. When we stopped at a rest area, RC heard that there were tornado warnings in the area, and he kept a watch for the rest of the trip. We ran into a bit of rain outside Montgomery, but it had slacked off by the time we got into Auburn. Following the directions from our GPS, we were on College St. in Auburn when we were suddenly pelted with extremely heavy rain and some vicious hail, We pulled over to the curb and just sat there waiting for the burst to pass. It was quite an experience!

Once it cleared a bit we were able to follow the directions and arrived at Jim and Maine's place none the worse for wear. We got in, visited a bit, then went out for dinner to the Catfish Shack. We had to do a detour because a tree had come down and was blocking the road.
