Where I stayed
Off on the streetcar uptown to the Audobon Park stop where we caught the shuttle that took us down to the zoo. We arrived shortly after the 10 am opening. About a half million school kids were there before us, though. They all seemed to be second and third graders -- very loud and very wild. We started with the Asian Domain and saw the elephants, white tigers and lions. The white tigers put on a bit of a better show for us the second time around since there weren't as many screaming kids around at the time
After finding the very elusive Haagen-Daz, we made our way through the gorillas, orangutans, monkeys, komodo dragons, lots of snakes, the sea lions, rhinos, wildebeests, alligators, bears, cougars, jaguars, the South American Pampas, we checked with the information desk and got our first time visitor souvenir glass that we promptly filled so we could slack our thirst a bit. After a sojourn into the gift shop, we caught the shuttle back to the streetcar and returned downtown to Zea's restaurant on St. Charles where we had Thai ribs for dinner.
We ventured back into the French Quarter and had our first beignets and some coffee. Afterward we walked to Frenchmen St. and listened to the music for a bit from out in the street. There had been filming in the area and it didn't seem to be a regular night of music. RC was not feeling overly comfortable with the street scene after dark, so we walked back to Canal St, went up and caught the St. Charles streetcar back to the Resort.
