Basically our first stop was in Shrewsbury, England, where we had about 1 hour between trains. We spotted an old castle close to the train station with lovely gardens, so not having enough "castle time" we thought we would catch one more! We walked around the courtyard and viewed the really lovely flowers, then proceeded to Laura's tower. We saw a little of the town and then got back on the train to head for our final destination, being Aberystwyth, Wales.
The town of Aberystwyth, Wales is a beautiful coastal town northwest of London. Our first destination was to ride on the longest and highest electric train in the UK. The train whisk us to the top at a whopping 4mph! At the top we dined on roasted lamb with all the trimmings, while we enjoyed the view. We also tried a couple of Welsh beer's that were quite tasty.
Properly stuffed, we made our way to the camera obscura, where we viewed the coast line via a 14" lens, the largest in Wales.
Cindy nearly lost it on the slick cobblestone exit of the obscura, and Candi and Vickie felt that was noteable!! Just so you know :)
We rode the train back down and then proceeded to the early ruins of this coastal city.
At around 5:30pm it was time to depart Aberystwyth, Wales, which I think none of us were happy to do. This was one place I really did not want to leave. Absolutely beautiful town, none of the pictures will do it justice. Reminds me somewhat of the Vancouver, BC area.
The country side we saw on this portion of the trip was really gorgeous. Lots of rolling hills, everything is extremely green, very large streams and canals run throughout. We saw tons of sheep and cows along the way in this mostly rural area.
Arrived home at close to midnight....dog tired, but the trip was well worth it!
