So- took a few days in Kodiak. Had some work to do. I got off the plane early in the a.m.- about 0700. The skies were blue, the air was cool, clouds rested on emerald enshrouded hills. Beautiful. I couldn't check into the hotel yet, so I got my rental car and went for a drive to find my way around town. The airport is tiny- and the road goes two ways. You can't get lost on Kodiak unless you leave the road. The road went maybe 20 miles before it came to a dead end- and a campground. I walked out to the bay- campers were still sleeping. So tiptoeing around, through lush green, I made my way to the sands- dark gray and took in the sight. Green mountain rising from the bay, gulls and eagles crowded out on the beach, searching for their breakfast. Silence.

Next few days were spent rolling around town (mostly working) and taking in the sights. Fantastic little coffee shop outside of town- Old Mill Coffee. Great stuff.

On day 3 (I think...) the weather turned crappy. Wind and rain whipped all around and I had to wear my fleece and raincoat to stay warm. I headed out to Ft. Abercrombie before my flight- old fort, lush green, headed out to the dense blue pacific ocean.

Overall- very cool place. Tiny, remote, beautiful green. On a sunny day it's lovely. On a rainy day it's intense. I'd recommend it... Still would love to get to the Wildlife preserve and check out of some of those Kodiak Bears.
