Went back to Kathmandu via very small plane. We saw the city of Patan- which is kind of like Bhaktapur and made the rounds to various other temples and walking tours that we had not done in Kathmandu previously. Regardless, on the second to last day there, I consumed something I shouldn't and spent the rest of the time not feeling like doing much of anything.
Another event of interest was the gas shortage- resulting in enormous lines at the gas station. We're talking miles of cars lined up on the side of the road- waiting for gas. We saw people pushing their cars- as they had run out. Bummer for them heh?
When we were in Nepal, there was a teacher strike thanks to a pay discrepancy between the private and government teachers. While in Ktm the second time, we witnessed a seemingly peaceful march. We learned later that the marchers had ended up blocking a street and the police took action- violently. They beat down several marchers. On our final day in Nepal, the teachers called a general strike for all workers. Taxis and public transport stopped running, businesses and shops were closed. The only thing running, seemingly, was the tourist bus to the airport- which was packed to the brim. I suppose it was a good day to be out of there.
