I've begun serious preparation for my trip now.  All of my "big" plane tickets have been purchased, with the last being the ticket to Kathmandu from Bangkok, which I purchased today on Thai Air.  I debated on using a travel agency, but discovered that thai air (online booking with e-tickets) provided a similar price with the convienience of the e-ticket.  Since I've never been to Thailand, I wasn't sure exactly who I was dealing with in Bangkok and would have to rely on my two feet to get me to the travel agency to pick up the hard copy ticket (which I could've paid using paypal).  This way, I feel, was much easier. The last thing I need to do is book a hotel for Bangkok for the first night or two.

Yesterday, I started my immunization schedule.  All those nasty bugs over there...  I also had a consult with a travel medicene office.  The RN I spoke to was wary of my plans since I am a single female, but she was both knowledgable and helpful.  I also dropped a lot of $$ there.  I still have more $$ to drop since I still have to fill my prescriptionns for Doxycycline (anti-malarial) and Cipro (antibiotic.. just in case).  I still have to go back right before I leave to get the 2nd round of Hep shots.

In honor of my good "I went to the doctor" deed, I celebrated by going to REI and spending a lot of money.  I had a dividend (small one) and the 20% off card as well... so why not splurge? I got a new long-sleeved shirt, which is light and vented.  This is probably perfect for this trip, but set me back about $50.  I also bought new Keen sandals, which I figure will be my living shoes while there- comfy and airy.  In addition, I got things like bug spray (30% DEET), some blister/chafe prevention stuff- given my history with blisters, a good idea, a pelican case for my ipod, and some new very breathable undies! woo-hoo!  We'll see how they work.. they claim that real travelers only need one or two pairs.  Hmph... we'll see. I will still make another trip to REI for various other things such as first aid kit supplies and possibly a water filter.  I'm trying to hold off because I know that some of these things I can get for much cheaper in Bangkok (i.e. mosquito net).

Next up: buy a digital camera.  No small cost, but I think this will work better for this trip.
