After one night of hostelling and two nights of camping, I decided to take the plunge and get back to some comfort in Whitehorse. Plus, Whitehorse is a neat little town.
Driving there, however, was pretty uneventful. I woke up in my tent in Liard around 7:30 and crawled (chilly) out to pack everything up. Once I was loaded up, I headed over to the gas pumps and waited as a kid rounded the corner on his 4-wheeler to fill up my tank. Then I drove across the street to the springs. The springs were wonderful- difficult to get into when the air was so cold and the springs so warm. And I came out smelling of sulfur. It was worth it. I only spent about thirty minutes before getting back into my clothes and back on the road- where I drove through a herd of buffalo.
The rest of the day was uneventful- evergreens, cloud-shrouded mountain peaks, drizzle, and brown and gray
Whitehorse is a fair bit different from my previous stops. The town is booming- a leftover from the gold rush days, I suppose. It's biggest novelty seems to be tourism. The visitor's center is the newest thing in town and everything is well-cultivated. Murals don the sides of many of the buildings, telling the story of Whitehorse. I meandered around the town a bit after checking into the hotel. After spending the night in creepy Liard, Whitehorse felt good. I think I'll make it to the border tomorrow.

another mural?
. I came into Teslin for lunch (yet again, nearly missed the "town"). The restaurant provided me a wonderful bowl of corn chowder and a great grilled cheese sandwich.
