After 3 days camping in Glacier NP, I finally come back into Whitefish to relax. Camping is great- but very very tiring. You sleep, you get up, you hike, you eat, you sit by the campfire and go to bed. I'm staying in town tonight- got out of GNP and decided I needed to clean up, wash clothes, and plan the next leg of my trip. I also successfully bought tire chains today, but have no CLUE how to put them on and I'm hoping like hell that I don't have to bother with them at all.

I'm just going to cover today's adventure in this posting since I'm on a public computer that I'm only supposed to be on for 20 minutes- so this will be short and sweet and I'll backdate some other entries a little later. I have plenty of journal entries to refresh my mind.

The days seem to be getting warmer instead of cooler (thank goodness) Going to the sun road

. I used my 20 degree bag last night vs. the 20 + 50 + comforter I've been using the past few nights. I didn't even sleep in my hat and gloves. After packing up everything, I followed Sarah and Michal over the Going to the Sun road (beautiful, btw) back to West Glacier. The sun was warm, but the wind was bloody cold and ripped right through my fleece. On our way down, we hit the Sunrift Gorge, which is a crevice in the slate gray rocks, through which crystal clear water flows over rounded multicolored stones. The sun hits the water and it's quite beautiful. We pulled over several times before and afterwards to take photos. We thought we may go on one last biking adventure at Fish Creek, but once we traveled up the gravelly road, we realized it was more of a mountain bike through the woods. Sarah and I both have slicks on our bikes, so we weren't too keen. And I also had not had coffee... which means that I was seriously dragging and lacking in energy. So we packed up ship and headed out of the park.

We stopped at a roadside deli/coffee house in Columbia Falls and had a very very good sandwich (and I finally got my coffee). The lady working there was really nice and Michal got some free doughnut holes that they were about to throw out. We said our good byes there and I headed back to Whitefish while they turned back towards Seattle.

I checked into the Super 8 hotel after that- gathered all my things out of the car and headed into my room. Sleep was calling, but I had things to do. First step: hot shower! Yay! I do love camping... but I also love hot showers, thanks much. Did my laundry, caught up on the news, and examined my maps once again. Then I headed out for tire chains and internet. Got the tire chains ($45) at NAPA and found myself a coffee house and free internet in town sunrift gorge

. Cute shop, cool town. There are some ex-Garmischers in town somewhere, but I don't have their phone number, I'm too lazy to call someone else to get it, and I think I have met my social quota for the week after spending a total of 4.5 days with various friends both here and in Bozeman.

I think I've met my 20 minute time frame now and I think I'll go back to the hotel and look at the Milepost a bit. Do I really want to camp in Yukon? The weekend made me realize how COLD it can be... but I also need this trip to be cheap. Hmmmm... decisions decisions.

Off I go. See you next time!
