We took a short diversion on our planned route to spend a night here in the Cameron Highlands. Due to the altitude the climate here is much cooler and ideal conditions for growing tea and other produce. Which also meant that it was much colder than we have become used to!
The Cameron Highlands is home to 25,000 people, who work on the estates to grow fruit and vegetables and tea for consumption in Malaysia. They do not grow enough to export and haven't mastered the art of growing rice so that they still have to import from Thailand!
The tea market in Malaysia is huge and so the tea estate we visited on our tour was providing tea for local use. We also did a jungle trek, where we saw some insect eating plants, we visited a butterfly farm with many different kinds of insects, and also a fruit market where we tried some exotic kind's of fruit!
