I ended up playing about to my average although it was a wild ride. After a a quick pit stop and we were sent out early for our 2nd round of the day on the "hard course" according to the locals - The Judge. Well let me tell you right from my double, double start the Judge sentenced me to a round that felt like hard time.
I managed to have a remarkable recovery on the front side with 4 strait pars to finish off the nine - highlighted by a remarkable up and down from the woods behind the 8th green for par (sank a 15 footer to save the par). The 2nd nine was the end as the wheels came off for me and I shot the worst nine of the tour.
Dad on the other hand shown the grit to come back after a hard morning to play some of his best golf of the trip. Several pars, a birdie and a couple other lip out for birdie showed the "old man" still can get it done under the most trying of circumstances. All in all it was another fantastic day and Capital Hill is a stop on the trail not to be missed. We only got to 2 of the 3 courses but the Legislator looked every bit as good as the other two and can't wait to come back and give them another go. Just as we finished the 2nd round they had to call everyone off the course for another storm. We stayed dry but had to drive most of the was up here to Birmingham in the storm. It took us about an 1 1/2 in the storm to get here to beautiful Ross Bridge Resort. The hotel had some trouble find our reservation and we had the first scare in terms of logistics of the trip. Well they figured it out and the even gave us an upgrade to the"club level" to make up for mix up. All is well that ends well.
The room is great and after cleaning up a bit we had a great dinner and then it was back to the room for the Yankee highlights and for me to pound out the blog. Well I think that is about it as I am a bit worn down after the long day on the course.
The Senator :
Craig - Orange Tees - 6900 Yds Slope 125 - Score 40 +43 = 83
Hal - White Tees - 6150 yds Slope - Score 47 + 48 = 95
Craig - Orange Tees - 6800 Yds Slope 132 - Score 41 + 46 = 87
Hal - White Tees - 6200 Yds Slope 129 - Score 42 + 43 = 85
Shot of the Day - Craig out of the wood with a 9 iron - a low running shot in to the bank of the green that came to rest 15 feet from the pin allowing for a par saving put.
Weather Report - hazy in the am - warming up to a high around 90 - thunder storms late in the afternoon with heavy rain at times. Evening temps in the mid 60's under clear skies. All in all a good day for golf with little or no wind to speak of.
Waffle House in Montgomery - as fine a Waffle House as we have found - good food fast friendly service - and great place for breakfast - no Waffle House near our current location so.... not sure what we will encounter for a meal in the morning.
Brocks: Ross Bridge Resort - Dinner - a fine meal with good service - Hall with Lamb 2 ways - Craig - Grouper - both plates were cleaned and we have plans to be back tomorrow.
Well again a ton of love to my girls - I miss you all and will see you soon.
The day started early for us this morning as we faced the only 36 hole day of the tour. We made sure to find the local Waffle House down the road from the resort. The Marriott was kind enough to give us a 6am wake up call and we were settled into our both by 7am. After breakfast it was strait to the course for a 8am tee time. We were sent out to the 1st of our two courses the Senator. The course is a links course with all of the amenities that one would expect from the courses in Ireland, gorse and heather, blind shots and tough greens. I was all over the place on the course - I played great for a few holes and was a basket case for a few. Dad started out with 2 strait pars and then the wheels fell off - it was the the fault of a poor putter as dad must have 3 putted 1/2 of the greens.
