Happy Father's Day!
Today we had breakfast in the hotel at 7:15 a.m. and were on the road by 7:45 a.m.  We drove to Florence and took our instrument and clothes directly to the church where we were going to play.  It was a beautiful church right in the center of town.  We couldn't believe that we were going to play there.  Incredible!!!!
We met our guide at the church and began a walking tour of Florence for about 2 and 1/2 hours.  She took us all over and described the buildings, the different styles, and the marble structures.  Our guide Elvira was very knowledgeable and sharp.  It was an incredible education on Florence.  I could go on and on about the city and all that we saw, but instead I would highly recommend that you all put Florence on your list of things to do and see.  It truly is amazing!  We ended the tour at the Academia Museum and we saw the famous David.  What a sight- Magnificent!!!!

We let everyone have a little free time to go get some lunch and to shop at the markets in town.  Several people made purchases - clothes and leather goods were the most popular.

We met at 3:30 p.m. in front of the church to get ready for our 5 p.m. concert.  Along the way we saw several posters with our Chamber picture on it advertising our concert.  We were so excited to see that around town!!!  Like I said earlier the church is right the center of town.  So exciting.  We changed, had a warm up and talked about our program.  (I have loved having all these concerts because each concert venue has been fantastic and we have been able to tweak each of our programs)  Today we did not have an intermission and we played for over an hour.  Everyone was focused, looking up and really played very well!  In fact it was outstanding.  We got another standing ovation and were requested to play an encore.  It's been so exciting for us all to be so appreciated by our audience.  It has been a great experience for my students!  Today there was over a 100 people.  Maybe 125 people or more...  The church was packed - people were on the side benches, standing and in the doorway.  It was so nice - they kept the doors open so that people could hear it from the street and just come on in.  Since it's in the centre of town many people stopped by.  Today we had a few familiar faces in the audience.  Jaime Hunt, (one of my former Waterford students - who just finished her first year at college who I ran into yesterday at Pisa, her sister Kristen - also a Waterford Alum and their mom came to our concert as well as the Browning family.  You'll be able to ask Sally Browning directly how great the concert was.  It really was incredible.  I was really thrilled from start to finish with their performance.  Everyone was looking up, paying attention and playing to the best of their abilities.  Katie J's Summer has just gotten better and better each time she performs it.  Steven's Arioso is just glorious.

After our concert we boarded the bus and our driver to us up the mountain to overlook Florence.  It was spectacular.  We took a thousand pictures, had snacks and then came back to the hotel for dinner.  Afterwards we took a trip to the Gelato place (Steven had four gelato's today!) and played Mafia in the hallway with the whole group - all 25 of us.  Kimi (Miyashima) we miss you.....hope soccer is going well!

Today was a special day - one that I wont ever forget!

Hugs - love to everyone,
Kathy and Craig
