Where I stayed
We loved it there! It was exactly the break we needed from the big cities, and the hostel we stayed in really made the experience because of its homey feel and great people. We were quickly acquainted with everyone when we walked in to the inquisition – "who are you? What are you doing here?" (in good fun) almost before we had put our bags down. It meant we got to know everyone really quickly and got an invite straightaway to head out for dinner with them all at one of the microbreweries in town which was amazing. Really great food and the beer was delicious (even the non-beer drinker thought so)
We had hoped to see some ice hockey while in Eastern Europe, and we were in luck here! HC Olomouc were playing at home in the stadium which was a three minute walk down the road. It was great fun, with beers and hot wines, cheering and chanting, and some funny “half time” entertainment (a football played on the ice with payers wearing normal shoes…hilarious). Great to be cheering the home team for the win! Out that night for a few drinks…turned in to home at 4am. Smokey bars but good cheap drinks and some great dancing. One highlight of the night was the fried cheese kebab – so much better than it sounds!
We also got to sample some of the local Moravian wine at one of the wine bars – delicious wine straight out of the barrels and it was so cheap.
The town is beautiful and quaint but still plenty to do and see (and eat and drink!) We had a ball and extended our stay as far as we could. A fun time with some great friends made. Thanks Ian and Chris for showing us a good time and Tom see you for more laughs and banter in Budapest.
